Tomy

Takara Tomy (Japanese: タカラトミ) is a Japanese toy, children's merchandise and entertainment company created from ther merger of two companies: Tomy (founded in 1924) and long-time rival, Takara (founded in 1955). In English, the company is generally referred to as simply "Tomy".

Tomy UK was founded in 1982 for sale and distribution of Tomy products in Europe, and have brought toys such as Zoids and a variety of games like Pop-up Pirate to the West with great success. Tomy also brought a number of popular electronic games to western shores in the early 1980's. Tomy UK's slogan has traditionally been "Trust Tomy".

After Nintendo with their Game & Watch, Tomy is one of my next favourite handheld game manufacturers (the other being Grandstand, and I can't decide between the two!). Tomy are, amongst other things, creators of the Tomytronic games & Barcode Battler, and they still make a large number of children's toys and games today.

Initially, like Entex, Tomy produced and distributed Grandstand handheld games, sometimes with a different name. For instance Caveman was released in Japan by Tomy but was also created and produced by Grandstand in the UK.
